Firstly thank you to everyone for your kind comments on the revamped site. We’re really pleased with what we’ve done and even more so with the feedback we’ve had since.? We’ve updated a couple of pages since going live.
York (Bootham Park Hospital) – somehow we forgot to add this one to the others list.? It’s is, as far as we can tell, the oldest purpose built asylum building still in use (or was, untill last month) as the 1777 main building is still standing.? We’d like to thank Rebecca Burrows of Purcell for sending us some fantastic photos and a comprehensive history. We’ve not really finished typing up the history but we’ll finish that in due course.

Hull – we’ve now got a full history on this asylum. It was actually demolished in 1883 so pictures are somewhat thin on the ground.

We’ve started building a list of Scotland Asylums. At first this will simply be just a list.? We hope in due course to add more details to each on the list.
As always if you have anything you feel you could contribute or help with then please drop us an email at info@countyasylums.co.uk
